At noon, Jian Yi returned home with two mutated horses and retrieved the traps she had set earlier. She had been lucky and caught a semi-mutated wild boar and a rabbit that had mutated to the size of a Husky.
On her way back, she casually explained to Zheng Lanxin, who looked shocked, that the two horses only needed grass to feed on. Then, she led the horses to the backyard.
The Wu family had horses before, and there was a ready-made stable. The horses Jian Yi brought back seemed to be the ones that Wu Peizhen, the son of the Wu family, had been raising. Once inside the stable, they behaved naturally and found their way to the trough.
Jian Yi found it amusing and tossed some horse fodder into their troughs. The two horses happily started eating.
However, these mutated horses were larger than their original size, and the stable seemed a bit small for them. Jian Yi would have to make do for now and expand it later when she had the time.
After taking care of the horses, Jian Yi went to the front yard, washed her hands in the pond, and then called out to Auntie, "Auntie, please make me some ginger soup!"
Although she no longer felt cold, she didn't want to take any chances. Catching a cold would be troublesome.
Zheng Lanxin replied, "Why do you want ginger soup? We don't have much ginger left, and I was thinking of saving some for planting. If you finish it all, what will we use for planting?"
Jian Yi frowned slightly and gave Zheng Lanxin a disdainful look. Zheng Lanxin's heart wavered, but she didn't relent. Instead, she blocked the cabinet with ginger.
Taking a deep breath, Jian Yi, who had just experienced a nerve-wracking morning on the mountain, was too exhausted to argue with Zheng Lanxin. She retrieved a pot, boiled some water, added sugar, and slowly sipped the ginger soup to warm herself up. Only after her limbs felt warm again did she put down the empty bowl and continue with her tasks in the yard.
After bringing back two mutated animals, she found that the semi-mutated wild boar had already died. Its hind leg had been gnawed off, so Jian Yi decided to cut off that leg and throw it into the ditch to feed the thorns.
The mutated rabbit was still alive but barely. Its two large rabbit teeth were as big as a palm, and quite thick. Jian Yi cut its throat and, once it had breathed its last, plucked out those two large front teeth.
The remaining meat was also thrown into the ditch.
Zheng Lanxin had followed Jian Yi without her noticing. She watched as Jian Yi was about to throw the semi-mutated wild boar into the ditch when she hurriedly spoke up, "Wait! It doesn't look completely mutated yet. It might still be edible."
Jian Yi's movements paused, and she glanced at Zheng Lanxin. She didn't mind having someone help her with an involuntary experiment. She put down the wild boar and motioned for Zheng Lanxin to come over.
"I'll take it to the kitchen and see how to prepare it," Zheng Lanxin said while muttering to herself. She then dragged the large portion of the wild boar into the house.
After awakening her extraordinary ability, Zheng Lanxin's strength had increased slightly. Although it was a bit strenuous, she could still lift the nearly two-hundred-pound half-mutated wild boar on her own.
Jian Yi watched Zheng Lanxin's efforts and didn't have high hopes, but she didn't stop her. Instead, she went to the storage room on the first floor, thinking about what to do with the two large front teeth.
However, she realized that there were limited options for making weapons with her current materials. No matter how she thought about it, she couldn't make a weapon that would be more effective than firearms. She felt a bit disappointed.
Still, she didn't waste her materials. Jian Yi polished the teeth, wrapped a section with a piece of cloth, and made two simple small daggers. They were just the right size to fit in her pocket for self-defense.
Zheng Lanxin had cut a piece of meat in the kitchen. Jian Yi looked around, making sure no one was watching, and tried to use her mental power to control the new daggers.
As expected, the daggers floated in the air with a wave of her hand. She controlled them, making them move left and right with her thoughts.
With a bit more mental power, she gave a swift flick of her wrist, and one of the daggers flew through the air and embedded itself in a wooden rack, sinking about four centimeters deep.
Jian Yi's eyes brightened as she retrieved the dagger. She suddenly felt that this little weapon wasn't bad at all. It could be used for self-defense, and most people would underestimate its effectiveness, considering its size.
Feeling satisfied, Jian Yi put the two daggers away and returned to the kitchen, where the delicious aroma of roasted meat filled the air. She couldn't help but salivate, but she also knew that she couldn't risk eating mutated meat. She had experienced it before – consuming mutated animal meat would lead to poisoning, with symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to severe illness, depending on an individual's resistance.
Some people were more resistant to the poison and might only experience mild symptoms like bloating or itching, while others could be severely affected, even falling into a near-death state. Jian Yi couldn't take that risk.
Zheng Lanxin, on the other hand, had just bitten into a piece of roasted meat and suddenly clutched her stomach, dropping the meat and rushing to the newly built toilet.
Jian Yi smirked and picked up the abandoned roasted meat. She continued roasting not only that skewer but also the ones Zheng Lanxin had put on her plate.
For a while, the kitchen was filled with a mouthwatering aroma, and Jian Yi couldn't help but imagine herself savoring the roasted meat.
However, she quickly reminded herself that the source of the meat was a semi-mutated wild boar, and she dared not eat it. She couldn't afford to take the risk.
Zheng Lanxin, who had returned after her episode in the bathroom, noticed Jian Yi's satisfied expression and couldn't help but feel annoyed. She decided not to make dinner and each person would have instant noodles for the night.
But looking at Jian Yi's contented face, Zheng Lanxin couldn't help but wonder if her "punishment" had truly affected the person she intended to punish.
