What is the Grave Keeper doing? I couldn't see what it gave to the man lying on the ground, but it certainly wasn't something for nourishment or beauty enhancement.
"Woo woo..."
After the man lying unconscious swallowed whatever it was, all the pale-faced monsters around started shouting together, howling like wild wolves. These howls were chilling and alarming. The cold wind blew through the secret room, and I shrank my neck, feeling like something big was about to happen.
"What are they howling about?"
I silently criticized them in my mind.
At that moment, the man lying unconscious on the ground suddenly let out a low, guttural roar and his upper body abruptly popped up from the ground, followed by convulsions.
"Ugh, ugh..."
Even from where I was, I could hear his dreadful cries, the kind that seemed stuck in his throat. He kept shaking, grabbing at his hair as if he had gone crazy, pulling at it frantically.
"Ah! Ah!"
Every scream was startling.
How excruciating it must be, I felt a numbness in my heart. The current atmosphere in the secret room was full of strangeness and peculiarity. The man's wailing, hysterical and frenzied. The pale-faced monsters surrounding him howling like wild wolves, the voices intertwining and making my ears go numb.
"Damn it!"
I couldn't help but cover my ears, and the screaming seemed to last for about ten minutes. I watched in shock as the man, who had swallowed the strange substance, tore out clumps of his own hair, causing blood to flow, as if his head was full of festering sores.
The Grave Keeper continued its strange incantations, and the man began to rise from the ground, shaking violently. His skin began to visibly turn white as he desperately resisted the changes to his body, but his resistance seemed feeble. When this guy tore off all the clothes on his upper body, I was astonished to see that every inch of his skin had turned white, as white as the ceiling of a hospital, or to put it more aptly, like all the pale-faced monsters in that place at that moment.
Even if I were stupid, I could understand - the Grave Keeper had turned that unconscious man into a new pale-faced monster!
As for how it was done, I can't explain it now, I was just scared in my heart, the blood, the howling, the man turning into a monster, all of these things made me afraid!
I tried to step back, this place was not suitable for staying long, if I was discovered, I would face a situation scarier than a school of mudfish. I turned around and looked around, although the secret room was illuminated by the fire, the range illuminated by the flames was not the entire room, mainly the middle of the secret room. And behind me, there was still a large area in darkness. Perhaps it would be more suitable to retreat into that dark corner for hiding than my current position.
This place was not suitable for staying long, so I cautiously stepped back, slowly approaching the darkness. At this moment, the attention of the corpse witch was all focused on the man who was turning into a monster. The other pale-faced monsters were howling with their heads up. They didn't pay any attention to me at all. This was my perfect opportunity! But I couldn't make any sudden movements, so I tried to slow down my pace and gradually moved into the darkness.
When the shadow began to envelop me, my heart calmed down a bit. I continued to retreat and at the same time, the changes in the man in front were getting closer. At this moment, he had basically ceased to look like a normal person. His skin was as pale as snow, he had no hair, and his body resembled a zombie. And of course, there were those pitch-black eyes.
He mumbled a low growl from his mouth, his humanity was slipping away bit by bit, and all he could do was make a futile struggle.
I retreated to the corner, completely entering the darkness, just as the new pale-faced monster completed its transformation. It slowly calmed down, prostrating itself in front of the corpse witch, like a devout follower. The corpse witch placed a hand resembling a dry bone on the head of the pale-faced monster. In a low voice, the corpse witch said something, and the pale-faced monster clasped its hands tightly and worshiped the corpse witch.
The howling of the pale-faced monsters stopped at this moment, and the corpse witch raised the wooden staff in his hand and waved it forward. The biggest of the pale-faced monsters outside the room roared. Two other pale-faced monsters dragged in a sack from outside. The sack left a trail of blood on the ground, obviously it did not contain anything pleasant.
The pale-faced monsters around looked at the sack with longing eyes, I'd seen such an expression on extremely hungry dogs. The sack was dragged to the center of the secret room. The corpse witch slowly approached the sack, using a stick to open it, revealing a half-dead cow's head inside! The head was still there, but the lower body was nowhere to be seen, broken bones, entrails. Some filthy blood had already flowed out. This was a cow carcass that had been dead for quite some time! However, what was disgusting to me, seemed to be an incredible delicacy in the eyes of these pale-faced monsters. The corpse witch raised the staff and lightly tapped the body. All the pale-faced monsters swarmed forward and began tearing and swallowing the dead cow's body.
This scene, I will never forget. I was so disgusted at the time that I was on the verge of vomiting. The broken entrails and the stirring intestines looked like a disgusting lump of mud.
"Roar!"
After the corpse witch left, the biggest of the pale-faced monsters suddenly roared. The other pale-faced monsters, who were eating, all stopped, and the burly guy walked over, grabbed the cow's head, and growled at the other pale-faced monsters. It was as if he was asserting his dominant position, just like a pack of wolves eating, if the alpha wolf didn't eat first, the others would not be allowed to eat.
The biggest pale-faced monster tore off the whole cow's head and a front leg, and went off to enjoy it alone. It swallowed the rotten meat, while the other pale-faced monsters crouched and watched without being able to move. It wasn't until the biggest guy had finished swallowing the last piece of meat on the cow's head, and even dug out and ate the cow's eyes, that the remaining pale-faced monsters were allowed to continue eating.
My whole stomach was in spasms, feeling like I wanted to vomit. I closed my eyes and tried not to look, but the air was filled with a putrid smell. The remaining body was cleaned out in a few minutes, and the unsatisfied pale-faced monsters even licked the filthy blood on the ground. These guys, who still looked somewhat human, were more terrifying than beasts at heart.
The corpse witch stood above. Slowly turned and placed his hand on the stone table, as if he had activated some mechanism, the center of the stone platform slightly depressed at first. Then the very center slowly rose. I squinted to look, it looked like some kind of rectangular object, but I couldn't see clearly what it was. It was somewhat like a box, and the corpse witch took this box-like thing in his hand. He fiddled with it a few times, and the box seemed to rotate like a Rubik's Cube, but it was different from a Rubik's Cube, as it was not colorful.
The corpse witch seemed to want to open this stone box. But after trying for more than ten minutes, he couldn't do it. I sat on the ground, feeling a bit bored, and pondering how to escape. These monsters seemed to be full, and I was both tired and annoyed. The several narrow escapes before had left me feeling exhausted.
My stomach rumbled a bit, and then a fart slipped out!
Fortunately, the fart wasn't very loud, but it was stinky enough, I hadn't expected it at all. Against my expectations, I waved my hand to dissipate the smell. However, this unexpected event once again placed me in a life-and-death situation.
After the stench had dissipated, the biggest of the pale-faced monsters seemed to have smelled something, and stood up alertly, sniffing the air. According to reason, the pale-faced monsters had evolved from humans, so their sense of smell should be similar to humans. But there was no guarantee that they hadn't undergone some mutation in this regard.
Seemingly having caught the scent, the burly guy began to crawl slowly in my direction. At that moment, I was completely absorbed in watching the corpse witch and didn't notice that the pale-faced monster was getting closer.
Danger had arrived, but I was completely unaware. It approached closer and closer, now at the edge of darkness, its vision apparently not very good. At this point, I also became aware, and when I turned around, it was already right in front of me, searching for my presence.
I was so startled that I almost yelled, but fortunately, I covered my mouth. It lingered in front of me, apparently trying to determine the source of the smell.
